Thursday Thoughts: Graduation

I’m a college senior. I graduated from high school in 2008 at the age of 16. After taking a year off of school and working two jobs and saving money, I started college. I attended community college for two years and got my Liberal Arts associates degree. After getting that degree, I started taking online classes with Liberty University and now I’m just 4 weeks away from getting my bachelors degree in Multidisciplinary Studies. It’s so surreal. It doesn’t seem possible that I’m actually going to be done with college! Of course, that’s where the confusion sets in.. I’ll be “done with college” but technically I won’t be. I’m planning on taking another year off and saving money (my bank account is quite low after four years of college :P) and then I’ll be getting my master’s degree in Library Science.

But the fact that I’ll be done, if only for a short period of time, is very exciting! I’ve worked hard for this moment and I can’t believe it’s finally almost here. I am also happy to say that I will be graduating with no debt! I didn’t take a single loan out to pay for college and I paid it all on my own. Thanks to financial aid for covering all my expenses at community college and a big portion of my online school, and also my good habit of saving money ever since I was young, I was able to pay for all of college on my own. It wasn’t easy letting all that money go… but I know that it will be worth it when I hold my diploma in my hands!

But now my question is… what’s next? As I mentioned before, I plan on taking at least one year off before going to get my master’s degree. But I’m nervous about what happens in between. I am currently working two part-time jobs, but the money I get from that isn’t going to be sufficient enough to be able to save enough for the next step. So I’ll need to be looking for a full-time job which is honestly, quite scary! I’m not quite sure what kind of full-time job I want yet. I would love to work at a library, which is why I want to get my masters in that field, but I know that if I don’t have my degree, I wouldn’t be able to work at one full-time. So I guess we’ll see what happens!

I’m excited about what God has in store for me and I know I just need to trust that he will bring me to where he wants me to go. If you would be willing to pray for me, I would greatly appreciate the prayers as I prepare for what God has next for me!

And now… I guess I should go work on all these assignments so I can get this semester done!

Thanks for taking the time to read 🙂
